For Blood Tests – Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) and Lipid profile, requires 10-12 hours fasting.

On the other hand, Ultrasound procedures such as Whole Abdomen, Upper Abdomen and Hepatobiliary Tree requires 6-8 hours fasting.

However, Pap smear, biopsies, cultures, 2D Echo results take longer because of the manual nature of the procedures. Additionally, some specialty tests take longer, and your physician can tell you if your tests fall into any of these categories.
